My short story -A DAY TO BE FORGOTTEN

    A Day To Be Forgotten

Today. Is . The. Worst. Day. Of. My. Life!!
I woke up in the morning, not realizing that it was Monday, the Monday which was the day after the school reopened. So, as usual, I went downstairs in my pajamas and saw my brother dressed for school. “Why are you dressed up? Is there school today?”, I chuckled, not knowing it would soon dissolve into reality, and he would have the last laugh. “ Um, Candace, there is.”
When the dawn of realization fell, I rushed to dress up, and also left without breakfast, the most important meal of the day.
Well, school was worse. “Hello class! Hope you’ve had good holidays! Now who is ready to face school!!” said My class teacher and when she did, she punched her fist in the air. This enthusiastic air fist was obviously returned with groans, much to her disappointment. After a few long boring classes, we had lunch. It was nothing short of edible. We had burdening class work, not to mention the heavy load of homework. Honestly, students shouldn’t be treated like robots.
Returning home, as on cue to this day, it started pouring down like the clouds were crying, for this horrendous day. Angry, wet, and immensely tired, I reached home.
As I slouched on the couch, BAM. There was a power failure. To make matters worse, all that homework assignments, were soaked and I had no internet to ask anyone about it or research, let alone the lights. We had a cold dinner in the darkness, cold rice  with half-boiled veggies. It almost reminds me of school lunch. Thankfully, almost.
I was anxiously waiting and almost sleeping as a result of my exhausted day, while my family was chilling out, without a care in the world. How I wished I could rest like them! Only at half past nine did the power supply turn on. First thing I did was rushing upstairs  to complete the works, while my parents watched television and my brother played video games. I felt a pang of jealousy rush in like adrenaline, but, I’ve heard that much jealousy is not healthy.
“Candace, honey, there is news”, came a voice from downstairs about after an hour. I ignored it and thought ‘How important could it be, probably some reality show gossip, or something unnecessary’. Maybe only 30 minutes passed after this, but to me, it felt like forever. I felt triumphant, but very tired. I finally finished my work and headed down with an aching head and body. I grumbled and moaned, but no one noticed. I whined and coughed and almost sank into the depths to tiresome and worry, where my little hands couldn’t bear the weight of the world, but still, my family didn’t move an inch. Instead, my parents sweetly looked at me. How cruel could this world be!
“Looks like school’s gonna be closed for a week, due to the heavy storms predicted.” my dad said. At that very moment,I wanted to shout. And I did, only less louder. “You like school?!”, asked my very curious brother.
“ Noo! I just finished doing a lot of work plus the assignments!”, I disappointedly grunted. Oh! My work went all in vain!
Although I expected a bit of sympathy from them, they just roared with laughter and Chris, my brother,  almost fell to the ground. How could they!
It certainly has been a one-of-a-kind worst day ever!
